Reaching Out

In 1993, we established our Family Service Centre in Wong Tai Sin as a central base for our patient, hospital and public service programmes.  The centre provides facilities for counselling, psychotherapy, play therapy, long-term follow-up care and acts as a venue for support groups and many Families’ Club activities.  It also manages half-way homes for convalescing patients and their families.

In 1995, as a direct result of the Foundation’s appeal, the Lady Pao Children’s Cancer Centre was opened at the Prince of Wales Hospital, the first such purpose-built facility for children.  We furnished the ward, fitted out a playroom and financed an extension to build extra facilities.

In the following years the work of the Foundation continued to expand.  It has grown to become the only organisation in Hong Kong that provides holistic and ‘family-oriented’ services for children with cancer and their families from diagnosis to recovery and beyond, as well as palliative services from death to bereavement.  But we didn’t stop there.
