| PATIENT SERVICE Patient Support - Medical
The Foundation finances the rental, renovation,
and furnishing of three half-way homes on lease from the Social Welfare
Department and Housing Authority.
These are used as convalescent quarters for patients
after discharge from the hospital until such time when the immune
system of the patients is adequately restored to be able to resist
infection in the home environment.
The half-way homes, located in Shatin and Pokfulam,
are specifically intended for bone marrow transplantation patients.
The one in Homantin is generally used by patients who do not have
a hygienic home to return to after intensive chemotherapy.
The Foundation also provides patients' families
with pill boxes and pill splitters designed for convenience in administering
medication.
A volunteer doctor, available on a medical helpline, provides
information to parents as and when required. |
