Long-Term Follow-up Care
Children who survive their battle with cancer
may suffer long-term effects from their encounter with the disease
and its treatment. These include learning difficulties, behavioural
problems, stunted physical growth or handicaps, heart problems or
an increased propensity towards other medical complications in adulthood.
Progressive monitoring of childhood cancer survivors enables doctors
to increase their knowledge and understanding of the effects of childhood
cancer in later life.
CCF provides funding and resources for these
long-term monitoring projects at the Prince of Wales and Tuen Mun
hospitals.
