Talking with others who’ve been there is one of the best ways to obtain information, find resources and get through the battle.  We have created a variety of groups to meet family needs.  These include groups that focus on helping parents deal with specific types of childhood cancer, supporting the needs of adolescent children, and a “back to school” programme organised by our family counselling team, that enlists the help of patients’ schools.

Through our own funding and the generosity of individual donors, the Foundation also organises regular family outings, family camps and summer programmes (both on land and at sea) for out-patients and their families.

These activities, which play an important psychological as well as social role, include local and overseas fun tours (e.g. Ocean Park, Mai Po Nature Reserve, Dolphin Watch, study of marine biology, Tokyo Disneyland), day and night camps, birthday parties, film shows, variety concerts and shows, special interest courses, festive celebrations and an annual Christmas party.

Toys and gifts are distributed to in-patients at Christmas, while our play team helps in-patients make arts and crafts for Chinese New Year, Children's Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Dragon-Boat and Mid-Autumn Festivals.

A group of volunteers – the Sunshine Ambassadors – also help in the programmes of the Families’ Club.  These Ambassadors are survivors of childhood cancer and some parents, all of whom have been cared for by the Foundation.

All these activities are fully supported by staff, members of the Foundation’s Council, volunteers from all walks of life, and on occasion, doctors and nurses.
